I decided to do something I’ve never done before and share some behind-the-scenes photos from a recent styled wedding shoot. Today, I’m showing myself in action photographing a couple in a natural light studio. I like to make my styled shoots casual– like we’re just friends hanging out so it’s not intimidating. I bring music, and we just have fun together. It’s important to me to make my couples feel comfortable with natural posing. I encourage them to pull each other close and cuddle with the focus being on their love and connection.
I styled this shoot myself for Something Borrowed Bridal Rentals in Provo, Utah. They contributed the bride’s gown and veil. This company provides designer wedding gowns that brides-to-be can rent for very affordable prices and past brides can get their own beloved dresses out of their closets for consignment. I think this is such an awesome idea to make a couple’s dream wedding more affordable!
I chose a blue backdrop for this shoot with the idea of the bride’s traditional “something blue” in mind. It’s one of my favorite colors for weddings. Everyone looks good in blue! I also decided on a sweetheart table for the bride and groom. If you’re not familiar with the term, a sweetheart table is a small table set up with seats for just the bride and groom during the wedding reception.
I love this idea for a couple of reasons. As soon as the couple walks down the aisle as husband and wife, they are immediately swarmed with well-wishers offering their congratulations. As wonderful as all of that attention is, it can get a little overwhelming. A table designated just for the two of them can allow the couple to step away from all of the craziness for just a few minutes of peace and quiet together.
The small space is also the place to splurge on fancy decor that would be too expensive for all of the guests tables. A special flower arrangement, garland or centerpiece, beautiful plates and cutlery, chair signs or a gorgeous backdrop are some simple ideas to elevate the sweetheart table and make it really stand out. I hope this shoot will serve as inspiration for any brides and grooms-to-be in planning their future weddings.
