Undeniably, the Utah State Capitol Building is a stunning wedding venue and location for capturing wedding photos among couples getting married in Salt Lake City. What makes it so attractive is that the Capitol Building can be a photo-only location. Offering couples a way to capture wedding portraits indoors & outdoors, regardless of where their wedding is held.  If you’ve ever been curious about the process for capturing wedding portraits at the Utah State Capitol Building, I’m detailing everything you need to know to schedule your wedding photos at the Capitol Building in this post.

One of the many benefits of choosing a wedding photography experience at the Utah State Capitol Building is that it offers use of its indoor space. Aside from offering protection from the elements, the interior of the Utah State Capitol Building is grand and opulent. The architecture is renowned for its stunning marble columns, ornate gilded details, and grand stone staircase. The interior space at the Utah State Capitol Building is a timeless backdrop for creating heirloom-quality wedding photos.

There is no appointment, application, or required fee associated with visiting the Utah State Capitol Building for your wedding photos. Additionally, there is no entrance fee associated with a photography-only experience at the Capitol Building.

The Utah State Capitol Building is available for wedding photos at any time during the normal operating hours. Keep in mind that the building also operates as a wedding venue. If you have a specific interior space in mind for your wedding photos, such as the Rotunda, it is important that we coordinate scheduling your photoshoot in advance. This will allow us to avoid impeding on any pre-scheduled weddings or events taking place in the same area. In order to access your preferred space, we will need to check with the Utah State Capitol Building’s calendar of private events during the scheduling process. Thus ensuring that you receive the photo experience of your dreams for your wedding portraits.

It is entirely possible to capture your formal wedding portraits during the week, following your wedding. What you may need to keep in mind is that having professional hair and makeup done for your portrait session is just as important as on the day of your wedding. Depending on how far apart your portrait session is from your wedding, you may need to have another bouquet created. This will allow you to have fresh wedding flowers on hand for your wedding photos at the Capitol.

Yes! Depending on the timeline of your wedding day, we can capture your wedding photos inside the building and outdoors. We will determine the order of the spaces we capture your photos in by first checking the schedule of private events and then by assessing the foot traffic of any other couples visiting the building for the same purpose.

You can! The Utah State Capitol Building is one of the most stunning wedding venues in downtown Salt Lake City. If you need more details on planning your wedding, including pricing and packages, I’ve put together a complete guide to planning a wedding at the Utah State Capitol here.
