Moab is a stunning destination wedding location in Utah. As a wedding photographer, my couples often request photos in Moab, whether they are planning an elopement in Moab or a lavish wedding day experience in other parts of the state.
Through the details below, I’m sharing all the information you’ll need to help you plan a photography experience in Moab at Fisher Towers or Dead Horse State Park. Keep reading for more.
Fisher Towers Engagement Photos
Undoubtedly, Fisher Towers is a breathtaking location for capturing engagement photos in Moab. The famed red rock formations at Fisher Towers can be seen when driving along the scenic byway, but experiencing them up close and personal for this momentous occasion in your life is truly remarkable. There is something to be said for streams of natural light pouring over the upper section of Fisher Towers, which is said to be over 200 million years old. The natural backdrop creates a noteworthy photography experience, whether you’d like to visit Fisher Towers for your engagement photos or wedding portraits.
As a Moab Wedding Photographer, when I first begin working with my couples on their portrait experience, I often recommend that we capture their engagement photos first. This added portrait experience in Moab ahead of your wedding allows you time to get comfortable in front of the camera while focusing on your love story, in a majestic setting.
Location

Entering Fisher Towers
The trailhead is managed by the Bureau of Land Management, and unlike the nearby state parks, there is no entry fee for accessing Fisher Towers. There is plenty of available parking, and the trail is easily accessible. The area is also dog-friendly! If you dream of engagement photos with your furbaby by your side, Fisher Towers is a great outdoor location where your pup will be welcome along on the journey.
Dead Horse State Park Wedding Photos
Dead Horse State Park is an equally majestic photography location in Moab, making it the perfect stop for wedding photos. Whether you elope or have a lavish wedding, I highly recommend visiting this location in Moab, Utah, for creative wedding portraits, filled with an unforgettable backdrop.
The desert landscape of Dead Horse State Park includes canyons, desert woodlands, miles of trails, and a picturesque overlook depicting the Colorado River and Canyonlands National Park in the backdrop.

Best Time of Day for Wedding Photography at Dead Horse State Park
Undeniably, sunrise or sunset is the best time of day to visit Dead Horse State Park for dramatic wedding photos. The early morning hours and dusk both bathe the canyons in golden light, adding a layer of romance and whimsy to your photos.
It would be best to schedule the time of your session based on the season we will be meeting for your photos.
For example, sunrise during the winter months in Utah (November through February) can happen anytime from 7:30 am to 9:00 am. The direction of the sunrise at this time of year will be Southeast. Meanwhile, sunrise during the summer months in Utah (June through August) takes place from 5:30 am to 6:30 am, with the sun rising from the Northeast.
Each of these seasons produces different, but equally stunning photos. As an experienced Moab wedding photographer, I can make a recommendation that works best for your timeline that applies to the season your wedding is taking place.

Conversely, you can park your vehicle outside the park and enter on foot. The entry fee for ‘walkers and hikers’ is $10 per person.

Parking
There is plenty of space to park at Dead Horse State Park. You can park by the visitor center or by Dead Horse Point Overlook. When planning your wedding photos, we should first discuss the vision you have in mind. From there, I can recommend the best course of action on where to meet and the closest available parking lot.
Parking at either of these spaces is only available during park hours and not overnight, unless you have reserved a campground. In that case, you would need to park near your campsite.
