As a photographer, the weather came sometimes be a tricky factor of my job. This is especially true for weddings which can’t be rescheduled. Every so often though, the weather will surprise me and provides something really beautiful. That is exactly what happened during this engagement session.
In my humble opinion, this field near the Squaw Peak Overlook in Provo Canyon is one of the most beautiful fields in Utah! It’s tricky to find as there is no parking lot or campground anywhere nearby. You kind of just have to know where it is. A short hike led us to this grassy meadow with a spectacular mountain view and the prettiest yellow wildflowers stretched as far as the eye can see. The colors were gorgeous! The three of us had the entire place to ourselves. We couldn’t have asked for a better location to document a love story.
The bride-to-be, Katelyn, was kind of bummed about the weather as we drove up the canyon. It was cloudy and overcast and a little bit stormy. The couple’s wedding day was drawing near, so there was no way we could reschedule. We just had to hope for the best. As luck would have it, the sun came out while we were shooting and filled the entire valley with perfect golden light. We turned around and saw a stunning rainbow in the background arching overhead. This was my first time ever photographing such a vibrant rainbow. It felt a little like kismet.
Katelyn and her groom-to-be, Ryan, were married a few months ago in Boulder. It’s a tiny little town in Southern Utah near the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. They pledged their love to each other surrounded by beautiful red rock scenery and a very small group of their closest friends and family. I got to be both their wedding photographer and videographer. I can’t wait to share photos of their big day soon!
