Caroline and Grant were sealed with a Provo City Center Temple wedding. I was present to capture the wedding pictures, and I was there when they moved their celebration to River Bottoms Ranch for a heartwarming ring exchange & stunning wedding reception.

Provo City Center Temple Wedding

Caroline and Grant were all smiles on their wedding day from the moment the doors swung open at Provo City Center Temple. The way that they took one another’s hand and looked lovingly into each other’s eyes makes it plain to see they share the kind of love that will last a lifetime. Their closest family members were waiting in the wings to congratulate the newlyweds and the shared excitement was palpable.

As you may already know, wedding photography is not permitted in the temple during your sealing ceremony. However, Provo City Center Temple wedding pictures are highly encouraged once you have exited the temple doors. Many of the couples I work with have their friends and family members waiting by the doors for the moment they make their appearance.

That moment, when the doors swing open after you have been sealed together as husband and wife is one of the most joyous moments to experience during a temple wedding. It’s always filled with the biggest smiles and the most excitement. I know the weight of importance that moment carries for my couples. Arriving at their Provo City Center Temple wedding early is crucial for capturing pictures filled with the emotions of that moment.

Once those doors swing open, it’s a flurry of celebratory hugs and congratulations in every direction. But, after the initial excitement simmers down, it’s time for wedding pictures and family formals. There are a few go-to locations I visit with my couples when capturing their wedding photos. The first is the North Lawn. This area allows me to take wider scenic photos with the stunning architecture of the temple in the backdrop. Next are the gates to the temple and the stone water fountain. Each of these structures is exquisite and embodies the beauty of the temple’s atmosphere.

The last location on the temple grounds where I work on LDS wedding photography is the steps. The stone steps of Provo City Center Temple are an amazing location for family formal wedding pictures. It gives us the space we need to include the entire family and to work with different groupings before you get ready to meet everyone at your reception!

Mormon Temple Wedding FAQs

If you’ve recently been invited to a Mormon wedding by a friend or a colleague, you might be curious about what it means to attend a Mormon wedding. Here are some common frequently asked questions about Mormon temple weddings.

Who can go to a Mormon temple wedding?

To attend a temple wedding, you must be a member of the temple in good standing and also hold a temple recommend from the leadership. Some couples will invite their closest family members to their temple wedding. Meanwhile, other couples choose instead to have a private temple wedding ceremony with family and friends awaiting their arrival just outside the temple doors.

What is a temple ceremony?

A temple ceremony is a Mormon wedding ceremony that takes place inside the temple (church). A temple ceremony is also often referred to as a ‘sealing’ ceremony. This is because a temple wedding seals a husband and wife together for all eternity.

Can you wear your wedding dress in the temple?

Yes, you can! For length, your wedding dress should fall to the floor. Additionally, your wedding dress should be white and cover your temple garments. If you have questions about your wedding dress when it comes to fabric, sleeve length, and the cut of your dress, I highly recommend speaking directly with your temple ahead of your wedding so that you can ensure your wedding dress adheres to their guidelines.

Do Mormons wear wedding rings?

Yes! Most Mormons choose to wear wedding rings. However, wedding rings are not required by the church. Therefore rings are not exchanged during a temple sealing ceremony. Because of this many of my couples opt to host a ring exchange at their reception venue after their sealing. If you were invited to a Mormon wedding, you may be in attendance when the couple exchanges rings.

What is a Mormon wedding reception like?

Anyone can attend a Mormon wedding reception. Much like weddings of other faiths and backgrounds, a Mormon wedding reception will be a celebration of the couple’s love. This can be a small and intimate celebration with a quiet dinner. Or it can be a large reception with dinner, dancing and entertainment. The reception all depends on how and where the couple wishes to celebrate. If you’re attending a Mormon wedding reception and unsure of what to wear, ask the couple if they have a suggested dress code in place for their celebration. Not sure about what to gift the couple? If the couple did not include a registry on their wedding website or detailed within their invitation suite, you can include a monetary gift within a card to gift the newlyweds at their reception (my colleague, Captured by Candace, would agree) .
