If you have been following my blog for a while, you’ll know that my work is Bright, Real, and Dreamy. As a Utah and Destination Wedding Photographer (like this destination video in Argentina I did), I have documented beautiful weddings all over the world. And one of the things I’m most honored to say is that I am also a Wedding Photographer Who Shoots Film. Also known as a “hybrid” photographer (Someone who shoots on both digital and film).

Why you need a Wedding Photographer Who Shoots Film

If you are obsessed with the look of soft film, I mainly shoot with Fuji 400H and Porta 400. And of course, I get all of my film processed locally here in Utah at The Find Lab.

Film photography takes a lot of skill and is extremely technical compared to digital photography. Or at least, it’s just extremely different. Having someone who has the ability to shoot both is a plus if you want to have is a huge plus. With film, you get really minty greens and deep and rich, and creamy skin tones. That’s something that I try to replicate with digital, but it never quite does it justice. If you are a fan of film photography you understand the difference. You can attempt to emulate, but you can’t quite get it.

How I use film at weddings

When my couples request for film at their wedding, I normally shoot their wedding day details with it. It provides a real and very personal keepsake for them. Doesn’t the dreaminess of film really shine with the photos below that I took in California?

Final thoughts on being a Hybrid Wedding Photographer

Having a hybrid photographer will elevate your wedding experience because you are getting a professional wedding photographer who is well versed in multiple forms of artistic creation. Digital photography can be artistic, of course. But film requires photographers to slow down and really think about their photos before taking them. It makes them frame things intentionally and artistically in a timeless way. And your wedding deserves it.
